About me:
I am an experienced, mature, clinical, Registered Social Worker (NZ-SWRB) and Counselling Professional (Diploma in Counselling ); Trauma Therapist / Health Professional having practiced for over 40 years as a Social Worker and therapist/counsellor in Australia and New Zealand. I am an Aussie by birth, moving here to NZ 35 years ago after marrying a Kiwi. We have 2 grown up children and a Cavalier cross Bishon dog called Scout.
Over the entirety of my practice, I have worked within:
a) the Health Care sector, including with:
*Trauma/PTSD/Sexual Abuse clients, registered ACC sensitive claims counsellor
*Hospice/Palliative Care / Cancer Psychosocial patients and whanau/family, providing End of Life , Loss and Grief and coping with a life threatening illness counselling.
*Elderly and Dementia Care having worked in rehab at Southland Hospital
*Paediatric Social Worker also at Southland Hospital.
b) the Children and Families sector:
*Working in the Child Protection sphere working for Presbyterian Child and Family support service and Open Home foundation which also included fostering.
*Children and Family worker at a Church
c) Relationship counselling
*Working for Relationship services Aoteroa providing couple and individual counselling
* Running parenting programs at Rangipo Prison for inmates
I am an experienced practitioner who uses several therapeutic approaches to counselling including, client centred , EMDR, ACT, Solutions focused therapy and other modalities as required. Every client is different with different needs. I am currently working primarily as a Counsellor in the Cancer Psychosocial Service at Southland Hospital and 1 day a week contracted to South Coast Psychology to provide sensitive claims counselling for ACC.
I believe in a wholistic approach to counselling and embrace the Te Whare Wha Maori model of wellbeing which informs my practice. I am respectful of all cultures and spiritual beliefs.

Through the ACC Sensitive Claims Service we offer fully funded support, treatment and assessment services for survivors of sexual abuse or assault. Our Named Service Providers are skilled, experienced, and qualified professionals.
Equine Therapy
Equine therapy has been used to treat anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, addiction, depression, PTSD and many other mental health conditions, and, in addition to targeting symptoms of those disorders, is theorized to help people build confidence, self-awareness, and empathy.
