Matt finds it a privilege to work with adults of all ages, young people, & their parents, and welcomes all people seeking to make a change in their lives.
Matt is a seventh generation Southlander and was raised on sheep and beef farms in rural Southland. He is a down to earth "southern bloke" and clients appreciate his calm easy-going approach and meeting people where they are at. Matt believes that in therapy, ”one size does not fit all” and it is important to take time to talk with his clients and come up with a plan together to ensure that therapy works for them.
Special interests include rural mental health, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, trauma & he is registered for ACC sensitive claims.
Matt has worked in many areas of mental health. From help with everyday life stress to therapy with forensic patients and prisoners, and those facing significant trauma reactions. From helping children and teens, to sitting with patients with life limiting and terminal illness and working closely with their families. He currently serves on the South Coast Psychology Advisory Board.
Matt is trained in various therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and EMDR 2.0.
He is a full member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists (NZCCP) and New Zealand Psychological Society (NZPsS)
